The center of culture and commerce in the West is the peninsula city-state of Erindor. Situated on a natural harbor on the south side of the Strait of Erindor, the city is the meeting place of trade routes from north and south, and the major destination for ships coming from the old lands of Men across the Inner Sea.
Founded by explorers from Ilántia in the decades soon after the Cataclysm, Erindor is nearly a thousand years old. After its founding, it quickly became the major hub for further exploration in the West. As more settlers came west, Erindor remained their cultural anchor, and became the seed of colonization both in the south and across the Strait to the north. Often occupied in time of war, Erindor has never become a lasting part of any larger country, perhaps owing to its strong natural defenses of mountains and water, or to the fiercely independent spirit of its people.
Erindor remains the largest, richest, most vibrant city in the West. Though it is not politically a part of any of the western kingdoms, it is in a sense the capitol of them all.
